OAKVILLE- John Robert Snyder, age 87, of Oakville, died April 23, 2014 at Waterbury Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Emily (Skrapolsky) Snyder.

John was born February 6, 1927 in Waterbury a son of the late Homer and Lillian (Wellspeak) Snyder and was a life-long Oakville resident. John was a graduate of Oliver Wolcott Technical School in Torrington. Prior to his retirement in 2000, John was employed as a Mechanical Superintendent at Metal Fabrications in Waterbury, he was the owner and operator of Model Tool and Die and Triple S Tool and Die in Waterbury. He has also worked at the former Plume & Atwood in Thomaston. John proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II stationed aboard the U.S.S Pennsylvania. He was a member of the VFW Post 7330 in Watertown. John was an avid golfer and was a member of the Watertown Golf Club for over thirty years. He loved gardening and took great pride in his yard and home. He was a member of Saint Mary Magdalen Church.

Besides his wife of 67 years of Oakville, he leaves two sons Mark L. Snyder of Thomaston, Robert M. Snyder of Oakville, a sister Eleanor Rosa of Middlebury, four grandchildren Lorea, Julia, Alexandra Snyder, Jennifer Hill, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Virginia Denker.

Funeral service for John will be held on Monday April 28, 2014 at 7 p.m. at the O'Neill Funeral Home 742 Main Street Oakville, CT 06779. Burial will be private and at the convenience of his family. Relatives and friends may visit with John's family on Monday April 28, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 1075 Chase Parkway Waterbury, CT 06708.
