His personal decorations and awards include the USAF Commendation Medal (2nd award), USAF Achievement Medal (3rd award), and the Korean Defense Service Medal among others. In 2004, John met his wife, Felicia, and the two started a beautiful family in 2007, welcoming their first daughter, Shaw Ireland (15), and shortly thereafter their second and final daughter, Grace Ireland (13), in 2009. John successfully retired from the United States Air Force in September of 2013, after 20 years of honorable and faithful service. He resided in VA and spent his time as a dedicated and loving father to his girls.

Left to honor and cherish his memory, along with his loving wife, Felicia Ireland, are his two daughters, Shaw and Grace. John is also survived by his siblings, Lorenzo J. Ireland of Maryland, Gaston (Latonya) Ireland III, Lee Ireland, and Bernard Ireland, all of Waterbury, Ronnie (Lucinda) Askew of Tampa, FL, sister, Yvonne (Reggie) Ligon of Waterbury, as well as two dear aunts Dorothy (Timothy) Gandy of Seymour, CT, Deretha McKogg of Waterbury, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
