NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Johnathan Davis Ireland, aged 47, of Newport News, VA, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2022, at Riverside Regional Medical Center in VA.
John was born in New Britain, CT, on July 26, 1975, the son of Katherine Ann Sullivan and Gaston Ireland. He attended Smalley and Chamberlin Elementary School, Pulaski and Roosevelt Middle School, and E.C. Goodwin Tech in New Britain, and eventually graduated from W.F. Kaynor Technical High School in Waterbury, in June 1993. Upon graduating from high school, John aspired to learn valuable life skills, make lifelong friendships, and broaden his opportunities by joining the United States Air Force where he served as a Jet Engine Mechanic for fixed-wing aircraft. John served across the United States and spent 12 years in mainland Japan. His personal decorations and awards include the USAF Commendation Medal (2nd award), USAF Achievement Medal (3rd award), and the Korean Defense Service Medal among others. In 2004, John met his wife, Felicia, and the two started a beautiful family in 2007, welcoming their first daughter, Shaw Ireland (15), and shortly thereafter their second and final daughter, Grace Ireland (13), in 2009. John successfully retired from the United States Air Force in September of 2013, after 20 years of honorable and faithful service. He resided in VA and spent his time as a dedicated and loving father to his girls.
Left to honor and cherish his memory, along with his loving wife, Felicia Ireland, are his two daughters, Shaw and Grace. John is also survived by his siblings, Lorenzo J. Ireland of Maryland, Gaston (Latonya) Ireland III, Lee Ireland, and Bernard Ireland, all of Waterbury, Ronnie (Lucinda) Askew of Tampa, FL, sister, Yvonne (Reggie) Ligon of Waterbury, as well as two dear aunts Dorothy (Timothy) Gandy of Seymour, CT, Deretha McKogg of Waterbury, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. John was predeceased by one brother, Patrick Brown, and one sister, Ann Hoffler. John will be profoundly missed, celebrated, and remembered by his family and friends across the globe.
Funeral Services for Mr. Ireland will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main Street at Southmayd Road, Waterbury. Burial with full military honors will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery.
