Proud of his heritage and Waterbury


WATERBURY - Jorge Madera Flores, age 74 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 13, 2020 with his family by his side at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of St. Marys Hospital. He was the husband of Lydia Rivera Madera.

Jorge was born on February 15, 1946 in Ponce, Puerto Rico, the son of the late Luis and Elena Flores Madera. He and his family have resided in Waterbury for many years. He worked for several companies as a machine operator, including Risdon and Peter Paul Cadbury. Jorge was extremely proud of his Latina heritage but Waterbury was his home. He took great pride in learning the history and importance of Waterbury and its community. He enjoyed domino's, fishing, Jiberito and Bolero music but what was most important to him in his life was his family. He especially watched over his wife, daughters and grandchildren and taught them the importance of strength, loyalty, ethnic pride and being non-judgemental. Jorge was a simple humble man who enjoyed walking every day and he will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love him.

Left to honor his legacy and treasure his love and memories, besides his wife, are his daughters; Lydia of Newington and Rebecca of Waterbury. He and his wife were blessed with 5 grandchildren; Miquel, Edgar Jr., Javier, Jailize and Hailey. Jorge had 17 brothers and sisters who live throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. He was predeceased by his daughter, Noemi. He leaves many, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members and friends.

Funeral services for Jorge will be held on Friday, July 17, 2020 at 10:00 a.m when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at All Saints - Todos Los Santos Parish at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 309 South Main St. Waterbury. All those planning to attend are asked to go directly to the church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with Jorge's family on Thursday evening from 5:00 till 7:00 p.m. at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd Waterbury. State regulations and guidelines currently in effect regarding COVID-19 restrictions will be strictly enforced at all public events.
