WATERBURY- Mr. Jose DaSilva, age 84, of Ridgefield Ave. Waterbury, died Friday, March 29 after an extended illness. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his loving family in the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of St. Mary's Hospital. Jose was the husband of the late Ana (Aninhas) DaSilva, who passed in 2011 after 60 years together.
Mr. DaSilva was born November 15, 1928 in Armamar, Portugal. He arrived in Waterbury in 1973 and worked as a mason. Jose was a very accomplished mason. The beautiful structures that he built can be admired throughout the greater Waterbury area and serve as testament to the skill and pride that he put into his work. He was an avid gardener and loved being outdoors. By far, his greatest enjoyment and pride came from spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Although he will be missed greatly, his family takes comfort in the knowledge that he is with his beloved wife Ana. He leaves his thankful family members with many cherished memories. Jose was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church.
Mr. DaSilva is survived by his children, Jose Manuel "Zem" DaSilva and his wife Elizabeth of Waterbury, Maria C. DaSilva of Naugatuck, Jacinto DaSilva and Paula Mina of Waterbury, and son-in-law Daniel Mina of Naugatuck. He also leaves his eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his son, Joaquim DaSilva and his sister, Lourdes DaSilva.
Funeral services to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. DaSilva will be held on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street in Waterbury. Those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
