OAKVILLE - Mr. Joseph A. Clemente, age 93, died peacefully at home on Monday June 15, 2015, surrounded by the love and care of his family. He was the husband of Jayne (DiNunzio) Clemente.
Joseph was born on March 19, 1922 in Oakville, the son of the late Vincenzo and Anna Marie (Vitone) Clemente and a lifelong resident of Oakville. He was educated in local schools and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Joseph was a decorated US veteran, a member of the 88th Infantry Division, having served in both North Africa and Italy and was awarded two Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star and many other awards of distinction. Joseph joined the Watertown Police Department as a Patrolman in 1954 and served for 30 years, retiring in 1984. Joseph was a member of several organizations including the VFW Post 7330, American Legion #195, the Waterbury Lodge of Elks # 265, the Cercemaggiore Club and the CT State Police Association. He was a parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen Church in Oakville. His greatest joy in life was time spent with his family especially his grandchildren.
Besides his wife Jayne of 59 years, Joseph leaves his daughter, Lee Ann Toffey of Plainville, his three adoring grandchildren, Sabrina, Kimberly and Robert Toffey and his wife Melissa as well 3 great grandchildren, Alex, Cole and Gabe and countless cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, John Clemente, Josephine DeSanto and Jasmine Clemente.
Funeral services for Mr. Clemente will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2015 with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Buckingham St Oakville at 9:00am. Those planning on attending are asked to go directly to the church. Burial with full military honors will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. Relatives and friends may visit with Joseph's family on Wednesday evening from 6:00 till 8:00 pm at the O'Neill Funeral Home 742 Main St. Oakville.
