SOUTHBURY - Joseph C. Aucella of Southbury, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2016 at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by the love and comfort of his entire family after an extended illness. He was the devoted husband of Tina (Fernandes) Aucella.
Joe was born May 1, 1961 in Waterbury, the son of the late Louis and Julia (Haddad) Aucella. He graduated from Mt. Carmel Grammar School, Holy Cross High School, Anna Maria College with a BS in Accounting and Waterbury State Technical College with a degree in Computer Science. Joe was employed for 29 years with the Ethan Allen Corp where he was Director of Information Technology. Joe also owned and operated Theo & Gretchen's Restaurant in Woodbury. Joe was also a Partner in the Accounting firm began by his father, Louis, A & R Accounting. At the time of his passing, he was the Business Manager for the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Waterbury. Joe was a devout Catholic who always led by example. A man of very strong faith, he always saw the good in everyone. He was a compassionate, kind, generous man with an undeniable work ethic always willing to teach others. A man of great courage and perseverance, Joe battled valiantly through a number of health challenges over the course of his life. His favorite saying was "up and over". Joe had an infectious sense of humor and loved to make those around him laugh. Most of all, he was a family man, happiest when around his wife, children and extended family.
Besides his wife of 25 years, Joe leaves his two sons, Jordan John Paul Aucella and Nicholas Louis Aucella both of Southbury, his two brothers, Louis J and Lawrence Aucella both of Waterbury and his mother-in-law, Julia Fernandes of Lousa Portugal, his two uncles, George and Fred Haddad of Waterbury. Joe also leaves many brothers and sisters- in- law, nieces and nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Kathryn Julia Aucella and a brother John Paul Aucella.
Funeral Services for Mr. Aucella will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2016 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main St Waterbury at 10:00 a.m. Prayers of Committal will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
