Joseph W. Butnor, formerly of Watertown CT passed away of natural causes on May 3, 2023 at the age of 86 in Deerwood, MN.
He was born on June 19, 1936 in Waterbury, CT. He is predeceased by his mother, Eva Gowlis Butnor, his father,Joseph Butnor, his wife Lucille Strileckis Butnor and his stepson Thomas Anderson.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Anderson-Butnor, his two sisters, Carol Viltrakis and Dorothy Owens and many nieces and nephews. From his marriage to Sharon he is survived by his step daughter Robin Heffernan, step son Timothy Anderson and many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
When he met Sharon, they had both lost their partners about the same time. The two of them made such a lovely couple. She stayed by his side during his illness, caring for him until his death.
Joe made friends wherever he went, striking up conversations with total strangers. You never knew what was going to come out of his mouth; he loved to tease people. Joe was a mentor to everyone in his family, a true family man. Although he never had children, he was like a father to his nieces and nephews
Joe is a retired Marine. He had a long career as a truck driver working for various companies and ending his career as an independent truck driver. In his retirement, he loved to take long drives and explore different routes. He was never lost, he just found a different way.
He truly will be missed by all. Semper Fi (Always Faithful).
Funeral services will be held in MN on Wednesday. Burial with full military honors will be held on Friday May 12, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Watertown, CT.
