Joseph Derevjanik

May 31, 1959 — July 7, 2021

Joseph Derevjanik, known by so many as "Uncle Joe", born in Brooklyn, NY on May 31, 1959 to parents Mary and John, passed away peacefully at the home of John, Cindy and Christina Derevjanik while under at-home hospice care on July 7,2021.

He spent many summers at the family summer home in Putnam Lake. In 1970, he moved from Brooklyn to the country up in Poughquag,NY.

He graduated from Arlington High School, then SUNY Cobleskill, and later USF in Tampa, FL.

He worked summers for the NYC Board of Education cleaning the schools, then as a Diesel Mechanic at HO Penn. Being a talented carpenter and while living in Tampa, FL for many years, he worked for Busby Industries, building custom Formica furniture. He then worked at a newer company building the interiors of surveillance vans,working closely with many ex-convicts. Joe also lived shortly in Miami and worked as an office building maintenance personnel. He worked briefly for a friend who was a magician building props, which ultimately led him to his most loved job, which was working for Norwegian Cruise line as a backstage carpenter technician. This job allowed him to travel the world.

Joe was also a loving and caring dog sitter to Mocha, Bella, Sandi and Oreo for many years.

After returning to NY and while living with our mom, he became her main caretaker throughout her battle with Alzheimer's

Joe was also a loving brother to John and wife Cindy and Ann Marie and husband Bill. He was a most loving and devoted Uncle to John Michael also his Godson and wife Sabreen and their sons JJ and Julian, Christina who stepped up and became his caretaker these last couple of weeks while in at-home hospice care in John and Cindy's home, Nick and fiancée Steph, Katie, Julia and Dan,and Godchild Elizabeth Bulko Polhy.

To our loving priest Fr. Luke Mihaly and all the parishioners at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, Danbury, CT and all of our cousins in the USA and Slovakia, extended family near and far, all our and Joe's dear friends new and old...Joe and all of us thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your thoughts, prayers, calls, texts,posts, cards,gifts throughout his journey with his Pancreatic and Liver Cancer battle.

Joe practiced and loved his Carpatho Russian Orthodox faith, his heritage, he enjoyed helping others with tasks,whether it was cutting a tree down, fixing a broken piece of machinery or any item, he was a carpenter, gardener, sewer, baker of our traditional Easter Pascha breads with his nieces, he loved sitting by his pond and chatting with a friend while feeding and watching his Koi fish, turtles or frogs. Spending time with his 3 nephews and 3 niecesmeant the world to him. Teaching them something, listening to or telling them a story, working on something with them, whether it be a machine, a sewing project, a flower or plant question,baking bread brought him much joy.
