Crosby HS Graduate, Master Toolmaker, Family Patriarch
WATERBURY, CT - Joseph J Serrano, age 78, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle
passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at his home. He was the husband of Anna Enamait Serrano, the love of his life and best friend.
Joseph grew up in Bronx, NY and moved to Waterbury before his Junior year of HS. He graduated from Crosby HS in 1961. Joseph and Anna have spent their entire life together in the East End section of Waterbury where they raised two children, Drew and Stacey. For over 50 years Joseph worked as a tool maker. It was not just a job for him, but his passion. He deeply enjoyed the intricacies and challenges of the trade. His career spanned multiple local "shops" including Waterbury Press Metal, Scovill Manufacturing, Mark Eyelet, and he retired from Utitec Manufacturing in Watertown. He was a perfectionist at everything he did. A lifelong tinkerer, fixer, and inventor of solutions. From backyard mechanic to house remodeling to making gadgets that made tasks easier. He was a jack of all trades.
Joseph never played a game he didn't like. Golf, pool, bowling, handball, darts, cards, dominos, matchbook football across the table... whatever it was he was in. Some highlights were 2 holes in one, a 278 high game in bowling, and multiple handball championship wins. He loved playing craps at Mohegan Sun. Joseph loved spending time with family and friends. He, along with his wife, enjoyed many memorable trips with both. His grandchildren were the light of his life and family always came first. Whether providing for, teaching life's lessons, being the favorite playmate or biggest fan, or bringing joy and laughter, his life was devoted to his family. He was always quick with a joke or a game to play and forever ready for a road trip to somewhere new. A fighter to the end, Joseph will be greatly missed.
A special thanks to Hartford Healthcare Heart and Vascular Institute for their compassionate care and dedication to Joseph.
Left to cherish his memories and honor his legacy besides his devoted wife of 54 years are his children; son Drew and wife Daniele, daughter Stacey Serrano and Edward Fiore, grandchildren Sophia and Kara, step grandchildren Kendrick Carvalho, Kayh Riberio, and Kirstie Carvalho, and many nieces and nephews. Joseph was predeceased by his brother Michael, and sisters Carmen, Virginia, and Anna.
