Joseph Joyce

ALEXANDRIA VA- Joseph Francis Joyce, age 98, who lived most of his life in Waterbury CT, passed peacefully on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the home of his daughter, Janis in Alexandria VA. He was the husband of the late Eugenia "Jean" (Greggis) Joyce who passed in 1997 after 58 years of marriage.

Joe was born March 19, 1915 in Holyoke MA the son of the late Thomas and Mary (Slattery) Joyce. He was raised in Waterbury, graduated from Crosby High School and worked at Scovill Mfg. as a foreman in the rod mill, for 38 years before retirement. Joe was a talented athlete, excelling in basketball, football, baseball and fast-pitch softball. He played for several area teams including, The Knights of Lithuania, Bristol Tramps, Cadet Club, the City Amateur League at Hamilton Park and the Waterbury Bombers. Because of his passion for sports, Joe was honored by the Waterbury Sportsmans Club and was inducted into their Hall of Fame. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan but his favorite team to watch was the FAU Softball Team coached by his daughter, Joan.

Joe is survived by his three children, Joan Joyce of Boca Raton FL., Joseph Joyce and his wife Virgina of Perry Hall MD and Janis Joyce of Alexandria VA. He also leaves two granddaughters, Bridget Joyce Wright and Meghan Joyce Bolesta and 4 great grandchildren, Morgan, Joseph, Brooke and Patrick Bolesta. He was predeceased by his brothers, John, Thomas, Francis (Mitchy) and Harold. .

Funeral services for Mr. Joyce will be held on Monday, April 1, 2013 at 10:15am from EASTSIDE MEMORIAL " A Casey Family Funeral Home & Tribute Center" 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd, Waterbury to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception 74 West Main St Waterbury to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Rites of Committal will follow in Calvary Cemetery Waterbury. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday morning from 8:30am - 10:00 am.
