Mr. Joseph J. Martinkovic Jr.

April 11, 1948 — February 14, 2025

Loving Husband, Father & Grandfather

WATERTOWN, CT – It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joseph J. Martinkovic, Jr share the news of his peaceful passing on Friday, February 14, 2025, at the Ingram Manor in Bristol, CT. Joe was the loving husband of Winifred (Macaluso) Martinkovic.

Joe was born April 11, 1948, in Binghamton, NY, the son of the late Joseph J. Martinkovic Sr and Helen (Orzel) Martinkovic. After graduating from Kings College in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he joined the Kings College admissions team, where he was known to organize social events, and where he met his wife, Winnie. Joe and Winnie were married in 1971, had their first daughter, Kristin, in 1973 and their son, Justin, in 1975. They moved to Waterbury, Connecticut in 1977 and had their second daughter and third child, Lauren, in 1979. Joe had a distinguished career in higher education, holding the position of director of financial aid in several Universities, including Post University in Waterbury, University of St. Joseph in West Hartford, and the University of Hartford. Joe was involved in several community organizations including the Knights of Columbus and loved golfing with his friends. He is known for smoking a good cigar, cooking a perfect prime rib dinner, and holding court outside on his deck with family, friends and neighbors.

Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory, besides his wife of 53 years, are his children; Kristin White of Waterbury, CT who preceded her dad in death just 3 days earlier, Justin Martinkovic of San Francisco, CA; and Lauren Mullins of Alameda, CA. He also leaves his brother-in-law, Most Reverend Christie Macaluso, Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus, Archdiocese of Hartford, and his much beloved grandchildren; Andrew White, Olivia White, Ada Mullins and Grace Martinkovic.

“Even when I no longer cast a shadow in the sun, I will be with you forever.”
