NOKOMIS FL Joseph William Meaney, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and resident of Nokomis, Florida entered the gates of Heaven on April 5, 2021 at the age of 83.

Joseph was born in Waterbury on July 3, 1938 to John and Margaret (Griffin) Meaney. He graduated from Bunker Hill Elementary School, Sacred Heart High School, and the University of Connecticut (with a degree in Education). Joe was a respected and loved Principal for the City of Waterbury School System for 34 years. Upon his retirement from Waterbury, he worked for the Archdiocese of Hartford Catholic School System for six years. In addition, he worked for the City of Waterbury Parks Department as both a lifeguard and Supervisor. Joe was a member of the Waterbury Elks for 53 years too. He loved swimming, boating, and spending time at the beach. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan as well.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Patricia May Meaney (nee Plonsky); his children by his previous marriage Kimberly Meaney Kuklis, of Homer Alaska; Joel Meaney; Melissa Meaney Ranaudo; Tricia Meaney; and Matthew Meaney, all of Wolcott. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Joe is predeceased by his brother, Rev. John Meaney and his son, Christopher Meaney.

Funeral services for Mr Meaney will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2021 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with the Rev Maurice Maroney as the Principal Celebrant at 10:00 a.m. at the Mary Mother of the Church Parish, SS Peter & Pauk Campus 67 Southmayd Rd Waterbury CT. Burial will follow in New St. Joseph's Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the Meaney family on Friday, May 21, 2021 from 4:00 till 7:00 pm at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main Street & Southmayd Road Waterbury, CT. COVID 19 precautions including social distancing and masks are still required. To honor Mr. Meaney's memory and in lieu of flowers, contributions to the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, 1075 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT 06708 would be greatly appreciated by his family.
