AT THE CASEY-O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME
WATERBURY - Joseph Thomas Shanahan Jr. - age 73 of Waterbury, passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit at Saint Mary's Hospital surrounded by his loving family after an extended illness. He was the husband of Rosemary (Stolfi) Shanahan.
Joseph was born November 6th 1939, in Waterbury CT, the son of the late Joseph and Natalie (Mraz) Shanahan. He grew up in Cheshire where he attended local schools and was a graduate of Hartford University where he earned his bachelors degree in electronic engineering. Joseph proudly served his country with the US Army during the Vietnam War and enjoyed boating and was a former Commander of the United States Power Squadron. He was a member of the Waterbury Elks Club Lodge #265 and an avid sports fan. He was a loving and dedicated father, husband, grandfather, brother, and uncle, who was always happiest when he was surrounded by his family.
Besides his wife, Rosemary of 50 years, Joseph is survived by his three daughters, Susan Buzzeo of Shelton, Betsy Shanahan, and Maureen Sullivan, both of Waterbury, his sister Kathleen Shanahan Mancinone, of Wolcott, as well as eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial service for Mr. Shanhan will be held on Thursday December 20th at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, 182 Robbins St Waterbury. A memorial gathering will be held Wednesday evening at the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home 1581 East Main St Waterbury from 5:00-7:00pm. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
