AT THE CASEY-O'DONNELL FUNERAL HOME - Waterbury. Mr. Joseph J. Thomas, age 89, of Waterbury, died Friday, June 18th 2010 at Waterbury Hospital after a brief illness. He was the widower of Stacia (Atkins) Thomas.
Mr. Thomas was born September 16th 1920 in Naugatuck, son of the late Charles and Alexandra (Bubczyk) Thomas. Joseph was a graduate of Naugatuck High School and enlisted in the US Army where he served during WWII as a Tech/5 in the Central European campaigns and was awarded various ribbons, commendations and campaign medals. He worked as a Master Eyelet Toolmaker working for various companies through out the area including; Scovill Manufacturing, Chase Copper and Brass, American Brass, and Clydel. He was a member of the VFW Post 1400 as well as the American Legion Post 200 of Rocky Hill and he enjoyed spending time in Cape Cod.
"This lad moves quietly among us but when he deems it necessary he makes himself heard."
Among his survivors are his daughter, Marilyn Thomas of Highland Falls N.Y., his granddaughter, Sara Fisher Poppe of NY and his sister, Zita Thomas of Naugatuck as well as many nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his brothers Ted, Charles, and Clarence and his sister Ann Cardinal.
Funeral services with Full Military Honors for Mr. Thomas will be held on Friday, June 25, 2010 with a graveside service to be held at Calvary Cemetery Garden Mausoleum at 1:00pm. Family and friends may visit at the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home, 1581 East Main St. Waterbury, CT. from 12 noon until leaving for the service.
