WATERBURY - Joseph D. Ubaldi, age 82, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Ada (Ciarlelli) Ubaldi.
Joseph was born November 23, 1932 in Waterbury the son of the late Angelo and Philomena (Caputo) Ubaldi. He was a graduate of Wilby High School where he was a standout basketball player. He then graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics. He entered the Armed Forces in September of 1956 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a Specialist 3rd Class.. He began his career as a Math Teacher for the City of Waterbury and Joe was very active in local and state politics. He served as the Democratic Town Chairman for the City of Waterbury for many years in the 1970's and was also active in state government where he served in many appointed positions. He was a former Chairman of the Bunker Hill Neighborhood Association, a member of the VFW Post 7330 and a member and former Officer of the Italian American Democratic Club of Waterbury. Joe was a member of the CT State Marshals Commission, a Commissioner of Civil Service for the City of Waterbury and was an appointed Constable for the City of Waterbury at the time of his passing. He was an avid sports fan especially basketball and was a loyal follower of UCONN Men's and Women's basketball. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Sheila O'Malley of Oakville, his son, David Ubaldi of Mercer Island WA, his three, beloved grandchildren, Mia O'Malley and her husband Sean Jaques of Jersey City NJ and Joseph and Olivia Ubaldi of Mercer Island WA and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles just 33 days ago.
Funeral services for Mr. Ubaldi will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. from EASTSIDE MEMORIAL "A Casey Family Funeral Home and Tribute Center," 1987 East Main St., Waterbury to Our Lady of Lourdes Church 309 South Main St Waterbury for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with Joseph's family on Friday from 4:00 till 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
