WATERBURY - Mrs. Josephine C. Santa Maria age 89 of Waterbury, passed away on Sunday August 24th 2014 at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of Saint Mary's Hospital surrounded by the love and comfort of her family after a brief illness. She was the widow of Joseph Santa Maria Sr.
Josephine was born in Waterbury, CT on October 18th 1924, the daughter of the late Joseph and Justina (Deprospo) Chiucarello. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Leon's Institute of Cosmetology and continued her studies at the Hartford Institute of Cosmetology. Josephine was the owner and operator of Josephine's Hair Salon in Waterbury for many years prior to her retirement. She enjoyed traveling, watching daily Mass on television and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of the Mattatuck Senior Center, a member of AARP and TRIAD. She was a communicant of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Church.
Among her survivors are her children. Janice Santa Maria with whom she shared her home, Michael Santa Maria and his wife Barbara of Waterbury and Joseph Santa Maria Jr. and his wife Pamela of Southington. She also leaves her grandchildren, Kristen and Laura Santa Maria, her brother, Lawrence Chiucarello in addition to many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother, Albert Chiucarello.
Funeral services for Mrs. Santa Maria will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 10:15am from Eastside Memorial, "A Casey Family Funeral Home & Tribute Center" 1987 East Main St. Waterbury to The Basilica of The Immaculate Conception Church 74 West Main St Waterbury when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with Josephine's family at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 9:00am until the time of the service.
