WATERBURY - Juan "Pepe" J. Rodriguez age 88 of Waterbury passed away peacefully surrounded by the love and comfort of his family on September 12, 2019 at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of Saint Mary's Hospital. He was the husband of the late Celestina (Padilla) Rodriguez.
Pepe was born December 12, 1930 in Adjuntas Puerto Rico the son of the late Juana (Padua) Rodriguez and Basilio Rodriguez. Juan was a loving husband, father and grandfather that always provided for his family. He emigrated at an early age from Puerto Rico to Waterbury and was the owner of several grocery stores (bodegas) in Waterbury prior to his retirement. He was well-known and respected in the community. His family was the most important to him. He loved being surrounded by his children, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and all of his nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly. The Christmas holiday was especially important to the entire family, celebrated by music and lots of food. He loved his homeland and traveled back to Puerto Rico often. He enjoyed traditional folklore music. Pepe will be sadly missed by all who were blessed to know and love him.
Left to remember, cherish and honor Pepe's love and legacy are his children; Irma Vargas (Rafael), Wilma Hodge (Philip), Wendell Rodriguez (Blanca), Wanda Rodriguez (Mike), Sandra Rodriguez-Luis (Manuel), also Marita Rodriguez and Ada Djeda and Juan Rodriguez. He also leaves two brothers, Gelo Rodriguez and Damian Rodriguez his grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, many nieces, nephews and many friends. Pepe was predeceased by his 2 sons: Chico Rodriguez and Edward Rodriguez, 3 brothers, Confessor, Manuel and Juancho and his sister, Maria Antonia, his granddaughter, Nitza LaTorre and grandson, Iran Brugueras Jr. A special thank you to all family and friends for their comfort and support.
Funeral services for Mr. Rodriguez will be held on Monday September 16, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd Waterbury CT. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with Pepe's family on Monday, from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
