WATERTOWN - Julia (Tysko) Speraw, age 91, passed away on March 7, 2018 at Grandview Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in New Britain CT after a long illness.
Julia was born on November 5, 1926 in Watertown the daughter of the late John and Rose (Hychko) Tysko. Julia worked at Princeton Knitting Mills in Watertown, Uniroyal in Naugatuck; Sherwood Metals in Waterbury, The Lutheran Home of Southbury and The Republican American newspaper for over 30 years. Julia and her late husband James Allen Speraw Sr, who were married for 65 years, enjoyed many vacations driving through the United States. She also enjoyed many hours of knitting, crocheting, tatting and ceramics. Julia was well known for her lacy handkerchiefs. She was an active member of St Mary's Russian Orthodox Church and was a member of St Olga's Society. She was involved in many church fundraisers, baking her amazing Easter breads (Pascha) and enjoyed preparing incredible meals for the church parish and visiting religious dignitaries.
Julia is survived by her daughter; Julie Ann Stachowiak and her husband, Joseph Stachowiak, her son, John Speraw and his wife, Anne Speraw, her sister, Helen Klemchuk, her grandson, Matthew John Speraw, several cousins, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Julia was predeceased by her son, James Allen Speraw Jr, her daughter, Marie Speraw and sisters: Mary Zarecki, Rose Mitko and Ann Tysko.
Funeral services for Mrs. Speraw will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St Mary's Russian Orthodox Church 3125 N Main St, Waterbury. All those who are planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in St Mary's Russian Orthodox Cemetery, Stillson Rd. Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with Julia's family on Friday, March 16, 2018 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at O'Neill Funeral Home 742 Main St, Oakville. In lieu of flowers, to honor Julia's family donations may be made to St Mary's Russian Orthodox Church, 3125 N Main St, Waterbury, CT 06704.
