WATERBURY - Karen B Astyk (née Kachergis) died peacefully after a sudden illness on January 9th 2015 in Waterbury CT at the age of 61.
Karen was born on April 1, 1953 in Waterbury, CT the daughter of Henry and Beatrice Kachergis. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1971 and married Richard Astyk, her first love, in 1972. After moving to Woodbury CT, the couple welcomed two children into their home and Karen opened her own bookkeeping business. Karen was an accomplished craftswomen sewing, weaving baskets, and sketching. She was a dedicated individual who loved gardening and apple picking with her grandchildren. To preserve manufacturing jobs in Waterbury, CT, she partnered with Steve Perry to buy and manage Futuristic Components, a high precision screw machine factory.
Among her survivors are her children, John Astyk and Cody Cuni, her brother Alex Kachergis, and her grandchildren Arlen and Aria Cuni. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard Astyk.
A funeral service for Mrs. Astyk will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 10:00 am at Eastside Memorial "A Casey Family Funeral Home & Tribute Center" 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd, Waterbury.
