Waterbury Mrs. Karen E. (Benninghoff) Powell, age 70, formerly of Cherry Ave. Watertown, died Monday evening at Waterbury Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Karen was born in Waterbury on July 20,1938, the daughter of the late Russell E. Benninghoff and Ellen (Brooks) Benninghoff. She attended local schools, graduating from Sprague Grammar School in 1952, Crosby High School in 1956 and the Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. She was employed as a Registered Nurse for many years at Waterbury Hospital and also at New England Home Care, retiring 10 years ago. She was a member of the Thomaston Congregational Church.
Mrs. Powell is survived by three children, Raymond J. Powell of Douglassville PA, Russell J. Powell of Corinth NY and Robyn J. Weiss of West Hartford CT. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Claire J. Hughes of Terryville CT and 5 loving grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her longtime companion Mr. Raymond Vaughan.
A Memorial Service for Mrs. Powell will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 10:00am at the O'Neill Funeral Home 742 Main St Oakville CT. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in All Saints Cemetery, Waterbury.
