SOUTHINGTON – Kari Ann (Kukanskis) Vogt, age 50, of Southington, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love and comfort of her family on Wednesday, February 15th, 2023, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the devoted wife of Mark Vogt.
Kari was born February 22nd, 1972 in Waterbury, CT, the daughter of Peter and Nancy (Orban) Kukanskis. She was raised in Woodbury and graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1990. She then attended Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, where she studied Mechanical Engineering and received her Bachelor of Science degree. Following college, Kari pursued her Master’s degree from the University of Texas Southwest Medical School with a focus in Bio-medical Engineering. Over the years, Kari held various engineering positions throughout the State of Connecticut and also became a Professor at Naugatuck Valley Community College, where she taught Biology. Most recently, Kari was a PhD candidate at Wesleyan University in Middletown where she planned to study Molecular Biology. Kari had an incredibly strong work ethic and if she couldn’t be found at school, you could usually find her relaxing on a beach or spending time with her family, either on Cape Cod or in Florida. Kari was deeply devoted to her family. She was always happiest while spending time with them and entertaining friends and family at her home. Kari had a brilliant mind and was unique in so many ways. Her devotion to her family and contribution to science has truly made the world a better place for all of us. We are all blessed and thankful to have had her in our lives. Her family asks you to please remember Kari in your hearts as we will forever hold her in ours.
Left to cherish her memory and honor her legacy, besides her husband Mark of 19 years, are her 3 children, Grady, Payton, and Cooper, her parents; Peter and Nancy Kukanskis of Woodbury, and her mother-in-law, Judith (Beloff) Vogt of Danbury. She also leaves her sister, Sarah Hardwick, and her two daughters; Allison and Lauren Hardwick of Watertown, her fur babies Rosie and Willie, as well as other extended family members and many friends.
