WATERBURY - Kenneth James Finnegan age 72 of Waterbury, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, June 25th 2015 at Waterbury Hospital surrounded by the love and comfort of his family after a brief illness. He was the husband of Kathryn Jean (Rankin) Finnegan
Ken was born October 6th 1942 in Waterbury CT, the son of the late James Henry and Mary (Dovydaitis) Finnegan and was a lifelong "East Ender". He was a graduate of Croft High School and proudly served his country with the US Navy Submarine Service as a Radio Man during the Vietnam War. Ken spent 31 years as a Railroad Engineer for Conrail/CSX until his retirement. He was a member of the VFW Post 7790, the Wolcott Senior Center where he enjoyed playing cards and gathering with his friends and was a parishioner of St Leo the Great Church. He was an avid UCONN basketball fan and a diehard Boston Redsox and Nascar fan. He was also an avid photographer and loved to photograph his family especially his grandchildren whom he adored and loved to spend time with.
Besides his wife Kathryn of 52 years, Kenneth is survived by his two sons; James Kenneth Finnegan, and his wife Marilyn and Brian Thomas Finnegan and his wife Barbara all of Waterbury his sister, Kathleen Ross and her husband, Charles of Wolcott and his grandchildren, Courtney Lynne, Patrick Joseph and Kenneth "Kenny" James as well as several nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Finnegan will be held on Wednesday, July 1st 2015 at 10:30am at Saint Leo the Great Church 14 Bentwood Ave Waterbury when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow with full military honors in New Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with Ken's family on Tuesday evening at Eastside Memorial, "A Casey Family Funeral Home and Tribute Center", 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury from 5:00 to 7:00pm. Memorial donations in Kenneth's memory can be made to Saint Leo the Great Church.
