Waterbury - Kenneth Irwin Hirshik age 71 of Waterbury passed away at Saint Mary's Hospital on Friday October 25, 2013 surrounded by his loving family after an extended illness.
Ken was born March 7th 1942 in Bridgeport, CT the son of the late Benjamin and Frances (Kirschblum) Hirshik and husband of the late Regina (Gelb) Hirshik. Ken is survived by his four children; Michelle Yacovelli, Kim Marquette, Jason Hirshik and Brett Hirshik and five grandchildren; Brianna, Kayla, and Jenna Yacovelli, John Marquette, Gabriella Hirshik and three sisters and their husbands; Joyce & Wallace Kirschner, Eve & Alan Rogoff, Audrey & Steven Bernstein and several nieces and nephews.
Ken was a graduate of Harding High School and studied accounting at Bryant College. Kenneth spent many years working in his father's grocery store, Boston Chain Grocers, prior to owning and operating a business with his wife Regina which was fondly called Gina's Jewelry until their retirement in 2004.
Ken was a humble, warm, kind, gentle soul who always loved spending time kibitzing around with family and friends. He enjoyed quality time with his family and grandchildren who he adored and enjoyed playing tic-tac-toe and thumb wrestling amongst many other games. He was an avid fan of football along with many other sports. Kenneth was also an active member of the Chabad Lubavitch of Litchfield.
Graveside services for Mr. Hirshik will be held on Sunday, October 27th 2013 at 2:00 pm. at Agudas Achim Cemetery located at250 Reid Street in Fairfield, CT. Kiddush and Shiva, following the burial service, will be held at the home of his daughter Michelle Yacovelli 12 Sky Top Sandy Hook, CT.
