WATERBURY, CT - Kenneth F. Walker Sr. age 92 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 26th 2017, at the Watertown Convalarium after a brief illness. He was the widower of Helen (Malone) Walker.
Kenneth was born August 24th 1924, in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late John and Julia (Gilmore) Walker. He was a lifelong Waterbury resident and attended St Mary's Grammar School and Croft High School. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, and achieved the rank of Corporal. He was involved in the liberation of the Philippine Islands and fought in the battles of Tarawa and Peleliu. After serving our country, Ken returned to CT and spent 41 years working for CL&P, where he held various positions, including chief lineman. He retired as field supervisor for distribution. He enjoyed watching TV, spending time with his family, and doing yard work. Ken never liked to sit still, and was always willing to help family, friends or neighbors with any project whatsoever.
Among his survivors are his children: Kenneth Walker Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Waterbury, Jeffery Scott Walker and his wife, Denise, of Harwinton, Timothy Dennis Walker and his wife, Janice, of Watertown, and his daughter, Ruth Volz and her husband, Joseph, of Plymouth. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his daughter, Jane (Hart) Walker, a granddaughter, Jillian Kate Walker, and a great-granddaughter, Lindsey Karen Stolfi.
A Graveside Funeral Service with Military Honors will be held on Monday, July 31, 2017, at 11:00 a.m, at New Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury, CT. Friends and family may visit with Ken's family at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. on Monday morning from 9:00 until 10:30 a.m. In Lieu of flowers memorial contribution in Ken's memory can be made to the American Cancer Society at 1075 Chase Parkway Waterbury, Ct 06708.
