Devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Friend
BRONX, NY– It is with profound sadness and grief that the family of Kowsilla Laurie or known to most as “Ruby Laurie”., age 82, of Bronx, NY, announce her passing on Thursday, January 11, 2024 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of John Cecil Laurie.
Ruby was born on July 30, 1941 in Vreed en Hoop, Guyana to the late Mahadeo Bhagwan and Bishun Dai Mahadeo. She immigrated to the United States where she cared for her husband, children and grandchildren. Ruby loved to be surrounded by her family and welcomed everyone to her home with a warm smile and open arms. Family and friends always spoke of her generosity and how she went above and beyond to make sure everyone was happy. She was incredibly hardworking even at a very young age, always putting everyone before herself. Her children always told stories of how she would always bring them back pastries whenever she would leave. Ruby was known as the “flower lady”, everyone knew that she had such love for gardening and loved flowers of every type. She had a unique bond with each of those around her, she will be deeply missed and we will continue to carry her memory in our hearts.
Left to honor Ruby’s memory are not only her husband but her children; Elizabeth “Rita” Laurie, Victor Laurie, Rudy Laurie, Erick “Son” Laurie, Derrick “Orro” Laurie, Millie “Geeta” Khan, and Nalini “Sunita” Singh, her son and daughter-in-laws, Mohamed Nazem Khan, Sham Singh, Natasha Laurie, Carol Laurie, Anita Laurie, Patricia Laurie. Nieces and nephews: Venita Alli, Rehana Gowrah, Haimawati Benjamin, Ramona Maraj, Seema, Rubin, Seenarine and many more too numerous to mention . Her grandchildren Natalie Boodram, Christine Bagman, Vanessa Skelton, Steve Laurie, Maria Laurie, Deepa Samchamd, Vickram Samchand, Neil Laurie, Angie Matos, Navin Laurie, Alicia Sirkissoon, Vivindra Laurie, Felisha Laurie, Christopher Laurie, Dian Laurie, Julie Laurie, Christina Laurie, John Laurie, Joshua Laurie, Cynthia Laurie, Ashely Laurie, Ricardo Laurie, Nicholas Laurie, Nirshad Khan, Areta Khan, Amanda Singh, and Korina Singh and many great grandchildren. Ruby leaves a sibling Kamini “Carmin” Mahadeo, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. She was predeceased by not only her parents but her son Peter “Vicky” Laurie, grandson Raphel Laurie, and her siblings Socheela “Julie” Bhajan, Gowrah “Pearly” Mahadeo, Ahimkumarie “Shirly” Sugrim, Khemraj “Babu” Mahadeo, Chamlall “Ashok” Mahadeo.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Lauriewill be held on Friday, January 19, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Caseys Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main Street, Waterbury. Cremation will follow at New Pine Grove Crematory, Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with Kowsilla’s family on Friday, January 19, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until the service beings at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
