Oakville - Lawrence W. Baker age 67 of Oakville, passed away peacefully at his home with his wife Nancy Kontout by his side after a valiant battle with cancer.

Larry was born March 30, 1950 in Waterbury, CT the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Hanley) Baker and was raised in Naugatuck until his family moved to Watertown. He was a graduate of Watertown High School where he excelled in track and football. Later in life he earned his Master's degree in fine art from the University of Hartford. He was drafted in 1969 and proudly served with the US Army 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam and was awarded the purple heart and bronze star with valour for injuries he received during battle.
Larry worked as a carpenter and stone mason but was happiest when in his home studio. His imagination, that knew no limits, was best expressed in the various works of art he created throughout his life. His unique presence and personality will be profoundly missed.

Besides his wife Nancy, he leaves three brothers: Jack and his wife, Mary of Elkhart, IN, James of Alfred MA, Richard of Cocoa FL, He is also survived by his brother-in-law Gary and his wife Judi of Watertown plus seven nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Baker will will be held privately at the convenience of his family. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of his life on Friday June 9, 2017 from 12 to 4:00pm at the Sunset Grill at Crestbrook Park, 834 Northfield Rd Watertown, CT. A time of remembrance will be held at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Hartford Healthcare at Home, HOPE Team at 680 Main Street Suite 300 Watertown, CT 06795 or a favorite charity of the donor's choice.
