AT THE O'NEILL FUNERAL HOME - Lawrence E. Smith, age 78 of Harwinton died Wednesday at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Lawrence was born July 27, 1929 in Pittsburgh, PA., a son of the late Lawrence E. and Isabel (Seitz) Smith and lived in Watertown and Woodbury most of his life, moving to Harwinton in 1999. He was educated in Massachusetts. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a truck driver for Quality Rolling and Deburring. He also worked as an engineer for the Bristol Co. but for most of his career, he owned and operated a dairy farm in Woodbury where he sold raw milk. Lawrence was a member of the Connecticut Antique Machine Association, the Lake Harwinton Association, the Quinebaug Valley Engineers Assoc., and the National Association of the Smithsonian Institution. Lawrence proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He leaves a son Gary E. Smith and his partner Michael L. Armstrong of Woodbury, a daughter Maryann M. Tobin, her husband Richard and his granddaughter Isabel M. Tobin who was the apple of his eye, all of Harwinton, a brother Richard Smith and his wife Carolyn of Palace Verde, CA., a sister Eileen Lampron and her husband Roy of Watertown, two step daughters Ann Jones and her husband Jim, Mary Berube and her husband Ken, a stepson Matt LaBruza and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Tuesday at 12 noon at the O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main Street Oakville. Burial will follow in Saint Mary's Cemetery in New Britain.
