AT THE CASEY-O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME
WATERBURY CT. Mrs. Leila (Gharfine) Karam, age 60 of Maybury Cir. Waterbury, died Tuesday evening at St.Mary's Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Elias Karam.
Mrs. Karam was born August 24, 1950 in Lebanon, the daughter of Mansour Gharfine of Lebanon and the late Georgette (Massoud) Gharfine. She was educated in Lebanon and came to this country with her husband and family in August of 1983. Leila worked for Meyers Supply in Naugatuck for many years. She loved cooking and participating in the many church festivals. Her favorite was the Taste of Lebanon where she was renown for her baked breads. Leila was happiest when her entire family was together for almost any occasion most especially Sunday dinners. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and cherished grandmother. Leila was an active parishioner of Our Lady of Lebanon Church in Waterbury.
Besides her husband of 42 years and her father, Leila leaves two children, her son, Tony and his wife Gina of Watertown and her daughter, Violette "Vola" and her husband Sarkis Balikian of Waterbury. She also leaves her adoring grandchildren, Chloe, Lucas and Jacob, her brother, Pierre Gharfine, sister, Antoinette Arslanian and sister-in-law Violet Ayoub. Her brothers Joseph and Antoine are deceased.
Funeral services Mrs. Karam will be held on Friday, January 7, 2011 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Lebanon Church, 8 East Mountain Rd Waterbury for a Service of the Holy Mysteries of Christian Burial. Those planning to attend are asked to go directly to the church. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Waterbury. Family and friends may visit at the Casey - O'Donnell Family Funeral Home, 1581 East Main St Waterbury on Thursday from 5pm - 7pm. A service of incense will be conducted at 6:45pm. Memorial donations in Mrs. Karam's memory may be made to Our Lady of Lebanon Church, 8 East Mountain Rd. Waterbury CT 06706.
