AT THE CASEY-O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, WATERBURY CT Lena (Volpe) Main, age 88, of 2221 East Main St. Waterbury, died Thursday, September 25, 2008, from injuries sustained during a fire at her home on September 11, 2008. She was the widow of Alvin R. Main who died September 25, 1999.
Lena was born in Waterbury on June 9, 1920, a daughter of the late Albert and Anna (Varca) Volpe. She was educated in local schools and was employed for many years as a keypunch operator at Travelers Insurance. She was fond of music and dancing and playing the mandolin. The centerpiece of her life however, was her family. The eldest of 8, she helped raise her brothers and sisters and her passion and commitment to family continued throughout her own family life, raising two sons and her daughter. She loved to cook and shared many recipes and family favorites with all. She was a parishioner of SS Peter & Paul Church.
Lena is survived by two sons, Ronald Alvin Main of Longmeadow MA and Robert Main of Middlebury, three sisters, Ann Bartosavage and Ella Aureli both of Waterbury and Janet Alvarez of Seattle WA. She also leaves 3 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Laura Langshultz, her brothers, Joseph and Armand Volpe and her sisters, Emily Testa and Rose Festa.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Main will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at 8:30am from the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home 1581 East Main St Waterbury CT to SS Peter & Paul Church 67 Southmayd Rd Waterbury CT for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am. Burial will follow in MT Olivet Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5-7pm.
