MORRIS - It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Lena D. Pietrantuono age 100, announces her peaceful passing on Monday August 26, 2024 in the comfort of her home with her two sons by her side. She was the widow of John Pietrantuono.
Lena was born November 1, 1923 in Oakville the daughter of the late Bernardino and Theodora (Daddona) DiNunzio. She was a product of the Watertown School system, graduating from Watertown High School and went on to Post College where she earned her associates degree in 1942. She also attended the Insurance Branch of the University of CT in Hartford. She worked in the insurance industry for 25 years as an executive secretary, ending with the Root and Boyd Insurance CO in Waterbury as head of their claims department. She was very proud to have received the professional designation of “Certified Professional Insurance Woman” in 1979 and received the “Alpha Logics School of Motivation Businesswoman of the Year” award in 1980. She belonged to the “Waterbury Association of Insurance Woman” and received the “Insurance Woman of the Year” award in 1971. She was a president of the “Connecticut Women’s Insurance Association”. She was a delegate to state, regional, and national insurance conferences. She was a member of “Toastmasters of Waterbury”. She was a founding partner of Peaches ‘N Cream Ice Cream in Litchfield, CT. that started in 1982. She was a member of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine at St. Thomas Church in Thomaston where she donated countless hours of service and served on the building committee of St. Thomas School. Her devotion to God and the church was evident in the way she lived her life. Lena was also a gourmet cook and master cake decorator as illustrated in the Waterbury Republican, in1992. She often invited strangers she encountered that had nowhere to go on holidays and invited them into her home for holiday dinners. She was an officer in the Women’s Auxiliary post #7330 where she volunteered countless hours of service.
Left to honor her memory are her 2 sons, David Redente of Thomaston, Martin Redente of Morris, Nancy Redente, (ex-spouse of Martin Redente), grandchildren Aaron, Kristofer, Spencer, Jordon, Justin and Monica Redente, 5 great grandchildren, 2 stepdaughters, Maryanne Madison, and Susan Antico, 3 step grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. As our family mourns the loss of a special wife, mother grandmother, aunt and friend, we are deeply touched by the outpouring of support from family, friends and the community. The considerate and thoughtful care provided by staff at VNA Hospice of Litchfield County who are dedicated to their profession and have been a great source of comfort during this difficult time and the family is grateful beyond words can express. Our family especially thanks Amanda Ausikaitis for the compassionate and unwavering care she provided to our mother over the past seven years.
Funeral services for Mrs. Pietrantuono will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception 74 West Main St Waterbury. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The Casey-O’Neill Funeral Home 742 Main St Oakville has been honored to care for the family during this most difficult time.
