Beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather
WATERBURY - Leo Allen “Al” Martin, a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and dedicated engineer, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2024, at the Glendale Health Care Center in Naugatuck, at the age of 88. He was the husband of Agnes (Baxter) Martin.
Al was born on April 13, 1936, in Waterbury, the son of the late Leo J. and Maryann (Michaud) Martin. Al proudly served his country with the United States Airforce, Al was known for the passion he exhibited for his work as a mechanical engineer in the manufacturing industry working tirelessly for 25 years at New Britain Machine and 15 years at Edgewater Manufacturing, retiring at the remarkable age of 86. Al was a steadfast supporter of education, always encouraging his family and others to pursue higher learning. He continued to inspire those around him with his dedication to his work and his unwavering commitment to excellence. He led a fulfilling life, enjoying hobbies such as woodworking, gardening, watching television and tinkering in his basement workshop. He could always be seen with his Dunkin Donuts Iced coffee and was a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. But above all, he cherished his time with his family, a love that will always be remembered. Al will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Agnes of 60 years and all those who were blessed to know and love him. Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory besides his wife are his children; Janet Martin and her two children, Riley and Alex. his son, Allen Martin, his daughter, Joann (Martin) Samih and her husband, Khalid Samih and their children; Zach, Nora, Jamal and Ryan. He also leaves his sister, Colleen Rakich and his brother Gerald “Buzzy” Martin, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and many friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Constance “Connie” Couture.
Funeral services for Mr. Martin will be held on Wednesday, September 4th, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St Waterbury, CT 06705. Burial with full military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with the Martin family on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the service commences at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
