WATERBURY - Leo J. Thibodeau age 85 of Waterbury passed away peacefully at home on Monday May 4th 2020 surrounded by his devoted wife and family after an extended illness. He was the husband of Josephine (Dileo) Thibodeau.
He was educated in ME and served with the CT National Guard for over 5 years. He was a tool and die maker at Preferred Tool & Die in Stratford until he retired. Leo was an outstanding athlete in his youth and excelled at baseball as a catcher. Later in life he loved coaching little league and was an avid Boston Red Sox, Celtic and NE Patriots fan. His most memorable experience was watching his idle, Ted Williams play in Fenway Park. Leo also enjoyed and was an accomplished square dancer. He was a member and served as Treasurer of the Wolcott Nutmeg Square Dancing Club and was a member of the Central Valley Square Dance Club in Farmington. Leo traveled across the country attending 10 National Square Dance Conventions. He was also a member of the Prospect Senior Center and the Waterbury Hospital Evergreen Club. Leo special hobby was carpentry and he would always be seen with a hammer and nails trying to fix something. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and cryptograms and he was an avid bowler at both Lakewood and Wolcott Lanes. Leo was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Waterbury.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish his love and memory, besides his wife, Josephine, are his children; sons; Jeffrey Sr. and his spouse, Debra of Winsted, Peter and his wife, Carolyn of ME and his daughter, Janice Jacque and her husband, Tracy of Torrington. He also leaves a brother, Roland Thibodeau of ME, his sister in law, Dolores Gollner and her husband, Raymond. of CA. He was predeceased by his second wife, Fern and his siblings, Florence, Albert, Joseph and Norman and his son, Stephen. Leo was blessed with 5 grandchildren; Jesse Paulo and his wife, Amie, Atty. Daniel Thibodeau, Jeffrey Jr, and Thomas and his granddaughter, Jennifer and 10 great grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Due to the current governmental restrictions concerning COVID 19, a funeral service for Leo will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church on the Green in Waterbury, when the restrictions are lifted and will be announced publicly.. Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd Waterbury has been honored to assist the Thibodeau family.
