NEW BRITAIN- It is with profound sadness that the family of Leslie L. Powell, age 61, of New Britain, share the news of his passing on February 28th, 2025, at his home.
Leslie was born in Suffolk, Virginia on September 2, 1963, the son of Mary (Boone) Powell of Waterbury and the late Lester B. Powell. Leslie has lived in Waterbury since the age of four, and was educated in the Waterbury Public School System. Although Leslie held many different jobs throughout his life, he found working with adults and children with disabilities were most rewarding. He worked in the field for twenty-five years. He was employed by Oak Hill and CCARC. Leslie was a hard worker; but he was so much more. He was an extraordinary person. He had a calm, cool demeanor; you could talk to him about anything. He was kind-hearted, generous and caring. His sense of humor was undeniable. He was always there to share life's joys and the pains with his family and friends. Leslie enjoyed music, movies, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends. The joy and the light that he brought into so many lives will never be erased.
Besides his mother Mary, left to cherish and honor his memory are his brother Wilbert L. Powell; his sister, Natalie Powell-James of Waterbury; his cousin/brother, Robert Mann; and nephew, Zakai James; and beloved sister-in-law, Joyce Powell of Waterbury. Leslie also shared an especially close bond with his nephews Robert Byrd,Marcus Powell, and Antonio Powell. He also held a very special place in his heart for Aaron (AJ) and Jonathan Goodson of Arizona - they were like sons to him. He is predeceased by Barbara Jean Dickinson, brother James B. Powell, and longtime companion and best friend, Henrietta Goodson. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory of one uncle, several aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
