AT THE O'NEILL FUNERAL HOME ?" Lewis F. Kilmer Sr. age 96, formerly of Patricia Lane, Naugatuck, died Wednesday evening at Wolcott View Manor after an extended illness. He was the widower of Mildred (Ostrander) Kilmer.
Lewis was born September 25, 1912 in Terryville CT, the son of the late Julius and Charlotte (Barto) Kilmer. Lewis was educated in the Amenia NY and Waterbury School systems and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having proudly served his country during World War II. He initially worked as an auto mechanic for his brother and then was employed as a progressive tool & die setup man at Homer D. Bronson Co in Beacon Falls where he retired after more than 25 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post #165 Wolcott and enjoyed woodworking and camping with his family. He was a member of the Union Congregational Church in Oakville.
Mr. Kilmer is survived by two sons, Edward C. Kilmer of Wolcott and Lewis F. Kilmer Jr. of Watertown, two daughters, Mary Andriulaitis of Skowhegan Maine and Mildred Lyons of Waterbury, a brother Luter Kilmer Sr, of Oakville as well as 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great, great granddaughter. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Kilmer will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at 12 noon at the O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main Street, Oakville. Burial with full military honors will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Watertown. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 10- 12 noon.
