AT THE CASEY-O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME IN WATERBURY CT- PLYMOUTH Lois (Stone) Dwyer Feitelson of Plymouth and Jupiter FL, formerly of Waterbury, died peacefully Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at her home with her devoted family by her side. She was the wife of Norman J. Feitelson and the widow of William Dwyer.
Lois was born March 2, 1929 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Raymond F. and Loretto (Hartley) Stone. She attended local schools and received her bachelor degree from the College of New Rochelle and her masters degree from Trinity College in Hartford. Lois began her teaching career at Barnard Elementery School in Waterbury and then taught at Croft High School. The last twenty years of her teaching career were at Crosby High School and she retired in 1992. Lois' lifelong interest in politics led her to serve as Democratic District Leader, absentee ballot coordinator and an unsuccessful candidacy for the State Senate in the 16th District. Lois was an ardent Boston Red Sox fan and she loved gardening and reading. She was an active member in many community and career oriented groups including the Waterbury Teachers Association, the CT Education Association, the Retired Waterbury Teachers Association and the CT Retired Teachers Association. She was a parishioner of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.
Besides her husband and best friend Norman, Lois leaves three children; Sheila Dwyer of Alexandria VA, Ryan Dwyer and his wife Susan of Reading MA and Krista Rauth and her husband John of Ridgewood NJ as well as her five grandchildren whom she adored, Kate, Liam and Maeve Dwyer and Matthew and Emma Rauth. Lois also leaves many special friends in the Waterbury and Jupiter FL area, In addition to her first husband, William Dwyer, Lois was pre-deceased by her sister, Barbara McDuff.
Funeral services for Mrs. Dwyer Feitelson will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 10:00am at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main St Waterbury with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated by the Rev. John Bevins. Those planning to attend should go directly to the church for 9:45am. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may visit at the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home on Friday, August 26, 2011 from 2 till 4pm and 6 till 8pm.
