WATERBURY - Mr. Lorenzo "Charlie" Nieves - Cruz age 72 of Waterbury passed away unexpectedly on Sunday July 5, 2020 at St. Marys Hospital. He was the devoted husband of Zoraida (Ayala) Cruz
Charlie was born on September 5, 1947 in Caguas Puerto Rico the son of the late Celestino and Maxamina Cruz. After his formal schooling, Charlie was employed by the Louis Frey Co in the Twin Towers of New York City as a graphic designer. After moving to Waterbury he was employed for the City of Waterbury and was responsible for the city print and design office in City Hall. Charlie was very active in the community and was a friendly face at City Hall. He had many friends, a great outlook on life and lived each and every day to its fullest. His greatest joy in life was his family with whom he shared many enjoyable times. He will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love him.
Left to honor his memory and cherish his love and legacy besides his wife Zoraida are his children, son, Charlie Nieves Jr and his partner, Christina Stavrakis of Waterbury, his daughters; Jeanette Nieves Ayala and her husband Milton of Bridgeport and Carmen LaGreca and her husband Robert of Cheyenne WY. He also leaves his sister, Isabella Quadrato and his brother, Cheo Nieves. Charlie and Zoraida were blessed with seven grandchildren; Agustin, Charlie, Jose, Sasha Marie, Imalay, Nicholas and Carlymarie as well as 4 great grandchildren; Sophie, Zoe, Gavin and Allexander.
Funeral services for Mr. Nieves-Cruz will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2020 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at All Saints - Todos Los Santos @ the Shrine of St. Anne at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends may visit with Charlie's family on Wednesday evening from 5:00 till 7:00 p.m. at Casey's Eastside Memorial, 1987 East Main St Waterbury. State regulations currently in effect regarding COVID-19 restrictions will be strictly enforced at all public events.
