AT THE O'NEILL FUNERAL HOME -Loretta LeBlanc age 78 of 45 Savings Street, Waterbury died February 4, 2009 at Abbott Terrace Health Care Center after a long illness.
Loretta was born August 10, 1930 in Waterbury a daughter of the late Ernest and Adele (Clavette) LeBlanc, lived in Waterbury for most of her life and also lived in Watertown for over 20 years. She attended Crosby High School. Loretta retired from Sealy Mattress Company after 43 years, having served as Steward, Union Counselor, Organizer of the Credit Union, Treasurer of the A.F.L. Local 1251, first Chairman of the Amalgamated Union, and President of Black Lake Local 3064. She was a member of the Catholic Women's Organization, was a Eucharistic Minister, and St. Mary Magdalen Churches only commissioned Healthcare Lay Minister - counseling the sick on a regular basis. Loretta also served her Church as lector, religious education instructor, parish council, annual blood drive organizer, women's retreat promoter, school carnival worker, Confirmation class retreat chaperone, and church collection assistant. The parish honored Loretta for 45 years of church, school, and community service in 2005.
In 2002, the Red Cross awarded Loretta as "Outstanding Volunteer of the Year" for organizing her church's annual blood drive. A lifesaver in many instances, she summoned medical assistance, transported the sick to doctors and emergency rooms and provided elderly services. For 20 years, Loretta brought Holy Communion to all Roman Catholics at Abbott Terrace every Sunday. She spent hours with individuals who had no other visitors.
A professional duckpin bowler, Loretta won several titles including Connecticut Mixed Doubles, Women's Singles, New England, and 1970 National Duckpin Bowling Congress Singles Championships ?" twice qualifying for the All Stars. Loretta donated her talent to Sena's annual "Bowling Carnival of Champions"- to benefit The March of Dimes, Juvenile Diabetes Association, and Newington Children's Hospital. Loretta lived her faith to the fullest, starting each day with Mass. She will be sorely missed by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Survivors include 2 brothers, Robert of Watertown, Ronald of Waterbury, 1 sister, Anita Siarkowski of Plantsville, their spouses, 15 nieces and nephews, 27 Grandnieces and nephews, and 1 Great Grandnephew. She was predeceased by a brother Ernest LeBlanc.
Funeral Saturday at 9 a.m. directly at Saint Mary Magdalen Church. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at church. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Watertown.
