THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE ASSISTING AND CARING FOR THE FAMILY OF LT COLONEL (Ret) JUAN A. TORRES.

WATERBURY - LT.COLONEL (RET) Juan Antonio Torres Jr. age 55 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on June 27th, 2019, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family at Saint Mary's Hospital after a valiant and courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Doraida (Rodriguez) Torres.

Juan was born May 22nd, 1964 in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, the son of the late Juan and Luz Torres. Juan was a graduate of Crosby High School and received his bachelor's degree in Economics from UCONN. He spent 23 ½ years proudly serving his country with the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany in support of Bosnia and also served a tour in Iraq during the Iraqi Freedom Conflict retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel with the US Army Reserves. Juan spent many years working for the State of Connecticut, Department of Social Services as a Social Work Supervisor. Juan was a talented carpenter and was always willing to help a friend of family member in need with any type of project. He also enjoyed camping and was a long time coach for the East Mountain Athletic Association where he coached soccer, baseball and basketball. What was most important to Juan was his family, even during his illness his focus was always making sure that their needs were taken care of before his own. He was always happiest while being surrounded by his family and would always enjoy cooking for them during gatherings, especially the holidays. He was a parishioner of All Saints - Todos Los Santos Church. Juan made the world a better place for all of us, and we are all blessed and thankful to have known and loved him.

Besides his devoted wife Doraida of 31 years Juan is survived his sons: Juan A. Torres of Waterbury, Antonio L. Torres of Waterbury, his step children; Daniel A. Mina of Bristol and Gabriel A. Mina of Waterbury. In addition he leaves his sisters; Aida L. Medina an her husband, Ruben of Waterbury, Carmen J. Hernandez and her husband, Jose of Waterbury and his two grandchildren, Kobie Mina and Adrijana and his two nephews Eric Medina, Carlos Medina and many other nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Olga Martinez.


Funeral services for Mr. Torres will be held on Wednesday July 3, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Sagrado Corazon Church 13 Wolcott St Waterbury CT. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery Waterbury. Family and friends may visit with Juan's family on Tuesday evening from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury, CT 06705.
