“Devoted to his Family”
WATERBURY – Luis Antonio Ramírez-Arce age 75 of Waterbury known to his friends and family as “Bony” passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at St Mary's Hospital. He was the devoted husband of Iris María (Batista) Ramírez.
Luis was born on September 18, 1946 in Peñuelas, PR, the son of the late Ángel Miguel and Georgina (Arce) Ramírez. He was educated both in Waterbury and Puerto Rico. Luis proudly served his country in the 91st Engineer Battalion, 1st Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. While in the service, Luis was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and earned the Expert Marksmanship Badge. In Waterbury, he worked as a butcher for both Porzio Veal Inc. and Ideal Meat Market. Luis’ favorite pastimes included fishing, cooking and grilling for his family and friends. He loved gardening and was proud of his tomato harvest every year. Luis was also an avid NY Yankees fan and would seldom miss a game. During baseball season, he could always be found in front of the TV on his recliner wearing a Yankees cap rooting for his favorite team. Notwithstanding, what Luis valued the most was his family. Any activity that included all of his family, including his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews, was when he was the happiest. He was also the happiest when Facetiming with his only grandchild, Javielito, every Sunday evening. Luis was the type of person who shared his gifts as father, uncle, brother and friend with everyone he knew. He was considered a father figure by many and helped guide them through life’s difficult challenges. Luis was known to be a generous and caring person and would do anything for anyone, including feeding relatives, friends, neighbors, and anyone who visited. One would often find him cooking on his grill in the backyard of his home or fishing with friends. He was also an active member of The Danbury Veteran Center, Hispanic Combat Veterans Group.
Left to cherish his memory and honor his legacy, besides his wife of almost 50 years, are his children; daughters; Iris W. Ramírez of Bronx, NY and Iris J. Ramírez of Cliffside Park, NJ, his sons; Javier Ramírez and his wife Jessica of Kathleen, GA and Armando Ramírez of Seymour, CT.
