Devoted to her family and her faith
WATERBURY - Lurdes M. Alves, age 96 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 with her family by her side at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of St. Marys Hospital. She was the widow of Manuel Alves.
Mrs. Alves was born in Madeira, Portugal on June 15, 1923, the daughter of the late Joao and Maria (Rosa) DeJesus. She worked for many years at Waterbury Tag and retired in 1962 to raise her family. Lurdes loved to travel especially to her homeland Portugal and also loved crocheting, and cooking. What was most important to Lurdes was her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church. It is said with great pride by her loving family that Lurdes exemplified a "life well lived". She will be sadly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.
Left to cherish her memory and honor her legacy are her children, son, Carlos Alves and his wife, Otilio of Waterbury, her daughters, Rosemarie Hamilton of Norwalk and Maria Fitzpatrick and her partner, Don Sumple of Torrington, 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Amy Alves. The family would like to thank and acknowledge the caregivers at the Lutheran Home in Southbury where Lurdes spent 5 wonderful years.
Funeral services for Mrs. Alves will be held on Friday, September 27, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. from Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home, 1987 East Main Street @ Southmayd Road, Waterbury to Our Lady of Fatima Church 2071 Baldwin St Waterbury to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
