AT THE CASEY-O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME - WATERBURY - SOUTHBURY CT. Mrs. Margaret "Peg" (Murphy) O'Leary, age 78, of Heritage Village died Monday following a brief illness at St. Mary's Hospital with all of her family at her side. She was the widow of Neil O'Leary, Sr.

Margaret was born on December 23, 1931 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Elizabeth (Houlihan) Murphy. She was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier Grammar School, Crosby High School and St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing. She and her family moved from Waterbury to Woodbury in 1967 and she had resided at Heritage Village for the past several years. Peg was a registered nurse at St. Mary's Hospital and the New Milford VNA. Peg was an active and vibrant member of numerous civic organizations, most notably Heritage Village Ambulance Association, Meals on Wheels and Southbury Training School. She enjoyed bowling, bocce and playing cards with family and friends. Peg was most happy doing things with and for her family, whether vacationing on the coast of Maine or attending one of her grandchildren's special events. Peg was a devout Catholic and communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church. Above all else, Peg was a tower of strength, conviction and character to everyone, most especially her devoted children and treasured grandchildren. She will be forever missed and remembered in many special ways.

Margaret is survived by three sons, Neil O'Leary, Chief of the Wolcott Police Dept. of Waterbury and Kevin O'Leary of Waterbury and Brian O'Leary of Woodbury; three daughters, Christine and her husband Gary Murphy of Bethlehem, Nancy and her husband Greg Bergmiller of Bethlehem and Noreen and her husband Dennis Buckley of Watertown; her loving and admiring grandchildren Patrick and Margaret "Maggie" O'Leary; Meghan and Kate Murphy; Jamie Bergmiller; and Sean, Dennis and Claire Buckley; her two daughter-in-laws Kathryn O'Leary of Watertown and Dale O'Leary of Waterbury; her brother Donald Murphy of Port Orange, FL and a sister, Josephine Miller of East Orleans, MA. Peg also leaves her devoted sister-in-law and close friend, Edna O'Leary who was especially caring for Peg during her recent illness. She was predeceased by her brother John and sisters, Kathleen Carlson, Mary Tierney and Terri Fischer.

Funeral Services for Mrs. O'Leary will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at 11:00am from the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home, 1581 East Main St. Waterbury to the Blessed Sacrament Church, 182 Robbins St. Waterbury for a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 Noon. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 till 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Waterbury Police Activities League, 64 Division St. Waterbury, CT 06704.
