THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE ASSISTING AND CARING FOR THE FAMILY OF MARGARET "SOOKY" TROLAND
A life well-lived
WATERBURY - Margaret "Sooky" (Knight) Troland, age 96, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at St Mary's Hospital. She was surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. Sooky was the devoted wife of the late Thomas Troland.
Margaret was born on April 2, 1924 in Waterbury, CT. She was the daughter of the late Louis and Mary (Rogers) Knight. She was a lifelong Washington Hill resident. She attended Washington School and graduated from Wilby High School with the Class of 1942.
Margaret enjoyed a life well lived that translated into her tireless commitment to her faith. She served as the parish secretary at St. Francis Xavier Church for over 50 years. Along with being one of the most active members of her parish, she was one of its sharpest. Before there were computers to recall key documents and information vital to the church, there was Margaret. She would recall events and details of church business in the blink of an eye and with a self assured smile that made all others know everything was taken care of. Her service to the parish also included being one of it's two trustees, a member of the parish council, the Ladies Guild, and the Seniors Association. She went on to become the worthy recipient of many distinguished awards, for which she was incredibly proud of and humbled by. She was the first Saint Francis Xavier parishioner to receive the prestigious St Joseph Medal from the Archdiocese of Hartford. She was the first enrollee of the Saint Francis Xavier Sports Hall of Fame. And she was the recipient of the Hopes Awardee.
The only other commitment in her life more important to her was the devotion to her family. She was a wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to so many who she would ultimately consider family. She once shared- " I can say one thing with certainty, my heart wouldn't be whole, nor my life full, without them." Even after the departure of her beloved Tom, her children were right there to fill the massive void, caring for her each and every day until the very end. She will be greatly missed by all those who were blessed to know and love her.
Left to honor her legacy and treasure her memories are her children; son, James and his wife Pamela of Thomaston, daughters; Cynthia Reagan and her husband William of Southington, Pamela Troland Sheehy of Thomaston and Barbara Arisco of Cheshire, her grandchildren; Jennifer and Lucas Mogensen, Stephanie and Anthony Ciuffo, Matthew and Maryann Alspaugh, Thomas Arisco, Deanna Arisco and Willliam Sheehy. She also leaves her great grandchildren Elle, Evie and Brody Mogensen, A.J and Vinny Ciuffo, and Winnie Alspaugh. She was predeceased by her sister, Virginia Veillette and her brothers Louis and Harris Knight. .
