A life, well lived
WATERBURY – Mrs. Marguerite (Atkinson) Shea, of Waterbury, age 103, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 4, 2024 at the Vitas Inpatient Unit of Saint Mary’s Hospital. She was the widow of Dr. Lawerence Shea.
Marguerite was born on March 21, 1920, in Waterbury, CT, daughter of the late Henry and Josephine (Dolan) Atkinson. She was a graduate of local schools, and first worked at Miller and Peck as a women’s fashion buyer, and then went on to work as the office manager of her husband’s dental practice for many years. Marguerite was an avid reader, a long-time member of the local garden club, but what she loved the most was traveling to various destinations with her husband. Marguerite and Dr. Shea felt very blessed to be the beloved aunt and uncle to such a devoted and close family. The family brought much pride, joy and love to them for which they are truly thankful. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.
Left to honor her memory and cherish her legacy are her nieces and nephews; Marianne Shea, Father James Shea S.J., Rosemary Petruzzi (Leonard), Attorney Paul Shea (Heidi), Dr. Richard Shea (Sally), Helen Chittum (James), Tara Gryga (Phil). She also leaves her nieces and nephews by marriage including; Leon F. Powers, Julia Shea, Katherine Shea, Marilyn Shea, Leonard Genovese, several great and great-great nieces and nephews, along with extended family and friends. Marguerite was predeceased by several nieces and nephews; Frank Shea, Carol Shea, Larry Shea, Jim Shea, Vincent Shea, Sheila Powers, David Shea, and Colleen Genovese.
Her family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Cherrywood lodge at Watermark of East Hill in Southbury, the Vitas Inpatient Unit of Saint Mary’s Hospital and her bed side companions from Hale Home Care for their compassion, care, and treatment provided to Marguerite and her family during her illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 182 Robbins Street, Waterbury. All those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the Church. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. There are no calling hours.
