WATERBURY- It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maria I. Andrade, our beloved mother, wife, grandmother, and pillar of strength, who departed from this world on August 9, 2024, at Beacon Brook Health Care Center in Naugatuck. She was the widow of Bernardo T. Andrade.
Born in Portugal on July 25, 1926, the daughter of the late Manuel and Cecilia Conceicao (Fernandes) Martins, Maria was a woman of great resilience and unwavering devotion to her family. Maria's journey through life was one marked by love, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to her loved ones. After moving from Africa with her husband, where they managed a coffee and cattle plantation, Maria settled in the United States in 1977. A skilled seamstress by trade, Maria spent numerous years tirelessly crafting garments with precision and care. A true matriarch in every sense of the word, Maria's dedication to her family was unshakable. Known for her remarkable culinary skills, Maria's love language was expressed through the delicious meals she prepared with care and devotion. Maria's was committed to her faith and family embodying traditional values that resonated through generations. Her legacy as a caring mother, devoted wife, sister and beloved grandmother will forever be cherished by those whose lives she touched.
Left to honor her memory and cherish her legacy are sons, Antonio and his wife, Claudia of Naples Fl; and Jose Andrade of Portugal; her brother, Manuel Martins of Portugal; her sisters; Victorina Pires of Fl, Josefina Morais of MA, and Fernanda Melo of Portugal as well as her 2 granddaughters Rita and Deandra and 1 great grandson Luis.
Funeral services in honor of Maria's life will be held on Thursday, August 15th, 2024, at 9:00 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin St Waterbury followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery Waterbury. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Services will be live streamed and can be viewed through the funeral home website. Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care 1987 East Main St Waterbury has been honored to care for Maria and her family during this difficult time.
