TORRINGTON - Maria (Alves) Fitzpatrick, age 66 of Torrington formerly of Waterbury passed away peacefully at home on June 30, 2020 surrounded by her loving family.
Maria was born on February 20, 1954 in Ponta Del Gada, Azores, Portugal the daughter of the late Manuel and Lurdes (Noberga) Alves. Maria emigrated to the U.S. at age 12 and then attended Merriman School and Crosby High School. She was then employed at General DataComm, the Big Y Bakery Dept and retired from Altec Electronics in Torrington in February of 2020. Maria never went anywhere without a tray of cookies, a beautifully decorated cake or her famous Portuguese chicken and rice. She always had her camera to capture happy moments and wonderful memories. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.
Left to cherish her memories and honor her love and legacy are her fiancé, Donald Sumple, former husband Brian Fitzpatrick, son, Brian Fitzpatrick Jr. and his fiancé, Kim Kilby of Auburn Washington, daughter, Tracy Fitzpatrick of Waterbury. Maria was blessed with 2 grandchildren, Jacob and Jade Singer who were the light of her life. She spent every weekend teaching them how to make cookies or a favorite Portuguese dish, She also leaves her sister, Rosemarie Alves-Hamilton, brother, Carlos Alves and his wife Otilia and sisters-in-law Francine Fitzpatrick Martin, Darlene Fitzpatrick Bedell and her longtime friend, Diane Libertore Mazzeo as well as several nieces and nephews. Maria was predeceased by her niece, Amy Alves.
Funeral services for Mrs. Fitzpatrick will be held on Tuesday July 21, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. from Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St Waterbury to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception 74 West Main St. to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow in the Queen of Peace Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with Maria's family on Tuesday July 21, 2020 from 11:00 till 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
