WATERBURY – Maria Stella Medina, 82, passed away peacefully at home under Vitas care on August 14, 2024.

Maria Stella was born on May 17, 1942, in Fusagasuga, Colombia, one of five children of the late Julio Hernando Medina and Ana Isabel Medina. As a young girl she enjoyed playing outdoor games, dancing, knitting baby outfits, and a good game of basketball. She came to Waterbury, CT in 1970, in search of a new life, where she met her husband Carlos Miguel Garcia. Maria Stella never forgot her family abroad, and welcomed many family members at her home in Connecticut, that arrived later from Colombia. She was a dedicated worker for many years at Timex Corporation, before retiring to care for her daughter and grandson. Maria Stella was a devoted Jehovah’s Witness, and shared the wonderful hope of God’s Kingdom, which will bring future blessings to the earth, such as the time pain and death will be no more. 

Maria Stella is survived her husband, Carlos Garcia of Puerto Rico, by her children Daniel Gallo (Jennifer) of Arkansas, Alejandro Gallo (Carol) of Thomaston, and Maria Garcia of Waterbury, as well as her grandchildren, Justin and Joshua Gallo, and Jason Jefferson. She also leaves behind her brother Julio Medina of Bogota, Colombia and sisters Margarita Bernal of Wilton, Mariela Medina of Waterbury, and many nephews, nieces, cousins, as well as numerous friends. In addition to her parents, Maria Stella was predeceased by her brother, Jorge Medina of Bogota, Colombia. 

Maria Stella’s family would like to thank all of the caregivers of Trinity Health of New England, Yale Medicine, Harold Leever Cancer Center, and Abbott Terrace Health Center for the compassionate care and love they shared with Maria Stella and her family. The family would like to express deep gratitude and appreciation to Casey's Eastside Funeral Memorial Home. Their personal care and loving concern during this difficult time will never be forgotten. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 2:00pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2670 N Main St; Auditorium A, Waterbury, CT 06704.
