Maria "Mita" Rodriguez

WATERBURY - Mrs. Maria "Mita" Ramirez Rodriguez, age 92, of Niagara St. Waterbury, passed from this world peacefully but unexpectedly at home, on Saturday June 29, 2013 with her loving family at her side. She was the widow of Manuel Rodriguez Padua.

Maria was born May 25, 1921 in Adjuntas Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Jose Ramirez and Juana Robles. Fondly known to all, especially her loving grandchildren as "Mita", she was the matriarch of her large and devoted family, always the protective mother. She was a very happy person, lived life to the fullest and loved to cook always making extra for the unexpected visitor or friend. Mita was a retired employee of Waterbury Neckwear. She was a deeply religious woman, committed to her family whom she was so very proud of. Her most treasured time was being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a parishioner of Sagrado Corazon, Sacred Heart Church in Waterbury.

Left to mourn her loss and treasure her memory are her 11 children, daughters, Rosa Gonzalez of Waterbury, Josefina Martinez and her husband Eriberto of Waterbury and Esther Rivera and her husband Francisco, her 8 sons, Elipidio and his wife Luz of San Sebastian Puerto Rico, Victor of Waterbury, Anibal and his wife Ari of West Palm Beach FL, Tony of Bloomfield, Miguel of Waterbury, Angel and his wife Iris of Waterbury, Edwin and his wife Dolly of Wolcott and Armando of Waterbury. She also leaves a sister, Guillermina Montalvo and two brothers, Cheo and Victor Ramirez all of Puerto Rico as well as 47 grandchildren, 73 great grandchildren and 26 great-great grandchildren. Mita was pre-deceased by a son, Israel Rodriguez and her step-father Teleforo Montalvo.

Funeral services for Mrs. Rodriguez will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sagrado Corazon Church, 13 Wolcott St Waterbury at 10:00am. Those planning to attend are asked to go directly to the church. Relative and friends may visit with Mita's family on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at Eastside Memorial, A CASEY FAMILY FUNERAL HOME AND TRIBUTE CENTER, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury. Rites of committal will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Memorial donations in Maria's memory may be made to Sagrado Corazon Church, 13 Wolcott St. Waterbury CT 06705.
