WATERBURY - Maria Nieves-Tirado age 69, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, January 2, 2014. She was the wife of Miguel Nieves.
Maria was born August 22, 1944 in Guanica Puerto Rico, the daughter of Samuel Tirado and the late Amelia Acosta. She was employed with the US Postal Service for 35 years. Everyone that knew Maria loved her. She enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, going to the casino and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Besides her loving husband Miguel Nieves, Maria is survived by her father Samuel Tirado and step-mother Julia Tirado of Yauco, Puerto Rico, one daughter, Sylvia Velez and her husband Angel of Wolcott, two sons, Michael Nieves and his wife Lisbett Villalba of Waterbury and Anthony Nieves of Waterbury, two sisters, Lourdes Tirado of Waterbury and Naomi Tirado of Guanica, Puerto Rico, eight grandchildren, Phoebe, Carlos, Michael, Robert, Aaliyah, Marissa, Victor and Ariana, and her sister-in-law Aurwilda Tirado. She is predeceased by two brothers, Samuel Tirado Jr. and George Tirado.
Funeral services for Maria will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Sacred Heart, Sagrado Corazon Church 13 Wolcott St. Waterbury to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Those planning on attending are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of her family. Relatives and friends may visit with Maria's family on Monday night, January 6, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Eastside Memorial, a Casey Family Funeral Home and Tribute Center, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd.
