Waitress at Former Ponzillo's Restaurant for 28 years
WATERBURY - Marie J. Dwyer age 85, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 22nd 2020 at the Apple Health and Rehabilitation Center in Watertown after an extended illness. She was the widow of John Joseph Dwyer.
Marie was born December 6th 1934 in Waterbury, CT the daughter of the late Jospeh and Margherita (Abruzzese) Flammia. She was a lifelong Waterbury resident and was a graduate of Waterbury Catholic High School. Marie spent many years working as a waitress for various Waterbury area restaurants spending 28 years at the former Ponzillo's Restaurant until her retirement and was the owner and operator of Marie's Catering. Marie was avid bowler and was a member of the Perillos bowling league and also enjoyed gardening. She was a parishioner of Saints Peter and Paul Church and a member of the East End Community Club. Marie loved to spend time in the kitchen cooking especially for her family and was always happiest while surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
The Dwyer family would like to thank and acknowledge the doctors and staff at Apple Rehabilitation Center and the members of the Hartford Health Care Hospice team for all the love, care and support they have provided to Marie and her family during her illness.
Left to cherish her memory and honor Marie's love and legacy, are her sons, John Dwyer of Waterbury and his former wife, Monique Dwyer of Cromwell, and Vincent Dwyer and his wife, Jody of Waterbury. John and Marie were blessed with her granddaughters; Megan and Caitlin Dwyer as well as several nieces' nephews and other extended family members. Besides her husband John, Marie was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Dwyer will be held on Tuesday, January 28th, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. from Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd Waterbury CT 06705 to Mary Mother of the Church Parish, Saints Peter and Paul Church to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m, Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with Marie's family on Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions in memory of Marie are encouraged to be made to the Hartford Hospice at Home, 1290 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield, CT 06109.
