THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE ASSISTING AND CARING FOR THE FAMILY OF MARIE URNIEZUS
When tomorrow starts without me, don't think we're far apart.
For every time you think of me, I'm right here in your heart.
WATERBURY- Marie Ann Urniezus, 96, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, February 14, 2019, at St Mary's Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She died as a result of a fall in front of her home. She was the wife of the late Francis Urniezus, having been married for over 65 years.
Marie was born in Gaspe, Quebec, Canada on November 2, 1922. She was the daughter of the late John and Malvina (Grenier) Mailly. Her family then moved to Waterbury, where she grew up. She attended St. Anne's Grammar School and graduated from Waterbury Catholic High School. She continued her education at Post College, earning a secretarial degree. She later was employed by the Torrington Supply Co.
Marie was a strong woman, with an unwavering faith in God and fierce independence. She was a longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart parish. Marie loved to knit. She would use her talent to make hats for the newborn babies at St Mary's Hospital newborn unit, every Christmas. She was an active member of both the Wolcott and Waterbury senior centers, where she could be found playing bingo on Wednesdays or doing Tai Chi on Mondays. She also enjoyed playing cards with her family on Sundays. Her greatest joy in life was being a wife, mother and grandmother. She had a staunch love for her family and selflessly devoted her life to them. She is our angel in heaven, and we know she continues to watch over us. Marie was enjoying life right into her last days. She will be profoundly missed by her family. We feel blessed that she had good health mentally and physically at the time of her passing and retained the dignity of still living in her own home, doing the things that had meaning to her.
Marie was predeceased by her loving husband in 2010, as well as, her two brothers, Emil and Jim Mailly. She is survived by her three daughters, Karen Urniezus and her husband, Frank of Pennsylvania, Joan Penna and her husband, Tom of Cheshire, Elaine Soule and her husband, Jeff of Wolcott. She also leaves behind two cherished grandchildren, Zachary and Abbie Soule, as well as, several nieces and nephews.
